The 2022 Love's Travel Stop 150 was the thirteenth race of the 2022 STARS Lowe's International Series season.
Race Recap
Tanner Steele started on the front row alongside Maki Nishikino. Steele led for the first 7 laps before a crash for Kanon Matsubara interrupted the race, bringing out the first yellow flag. The race went uninterrupted until lap 77 when Maddie Anderson and Nishikino collided in a pit exit incident, collecting Joe Branch and Jacob Eichholtz. Eichholtz would retire from the race, while pit issues for Caitlin Conway saw her fall out of the race.
Short after the restart, on lap 87, Evie Vance would be turned hard into the wall head-on by Honoka Kousaka, collecting Rosemary Black and Daniel Leckliter, who had been running in second until the crash. Vance would have to receive brief medical attention but she was ultimately okay. On the ensuing restart, Maddie Anderson would spin Alex Phillips into the wall, but this would not be the worst incident. Exiting turn 2, Bailey Bliss would blow a tire from third place, spinning in front of the entire field, causing a 29 car pileup. Most notably, Joe Branch hit the pit wall opening and both Ben Atkins and Madison Baszler would find themselves parked on top of Maki Nishikino's car. 15 cars would retire from the race due to the incident.
Despite his own issues, Steele would continue to lead the race, as he had all the way before hand, but Misaki Andou would make a pass on him on lap 110. With 7 laps to go, Andou had to pit for a blown tire, giving Corbin Rhodes the lead. Rhodes would be passed by Daniel Leckliter, who had backed into the wall on lap 87, but Lilly Samson would come to a stop on the track with 2 laps to go, forcing the race into overtime with only 7 cars on the lead lap. On the restart, Rhodes got the jump on Leckliter, but the 10 car got an advantage due to starting on the low line. Out of turn 2, a four wide situation would go wrong, as AJ Murphy would spear the pit wall, shooting back onto track, collecting Tohka Shishigaya, Gabriel Macena and Tanner Steele. Leckliter would beat Rhodes back to the line to win the race, while Kazuki Kazami would sneak by the overtime crash to finish third.
