STARS LIS Driver

Maxwell Riley Winfield (born 15th February 1994) is a STARS Lowe's International Series driver from Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland. He ran three seasons in the STARS Kobalt Tools Truck Series from 2018 to 2020. Most famously having two seasons with the Outlaw Racers Group team.

Early Career

Winfield started his racing career when he was 13, racing go-karts in Ireland, getting some notable attention for racing alongside some future touring car and open wheel stars. In 2009, At the age of 15, Max Winfield headed to England to race in the Ginetta Juniors series, where he competed for two years, with mixed results. After that, Winfield would explore various other racing opportunities after finishing high school. In 2017, Winfield would make his first appearance in America, racing a support race for STARS at Texas World Speedway. Winfield showed a lot of promise in his race, and this caught the attention of Darrell Briggs, who was undergoing an ambitious plan to find talent. Briggs would sign Winfield, along with Rosemary Black and Monster Truck driver Neil Ryan, along with the Japanese driver Hana Kashima, who was already in that truck, to run in 2018.

2018-2020: KTTS Career

Max Winfield would get the first crack at 2018 in the 87 truck at the New York Autoring, and would pull out an impressive 6th place finish in the race, even leading a couple of laps. Winfield's next start would come at the Oklahoma City Motorsports Complex Superspeedway, where he would exit the race early on Lap 9 from a wild barrel roll in the first accident of the race. Winfield wasn't detoured by this accident, as the next week at Texas World Superspeedway would bring Winfield a 13th place finish after starting back in 28th position. Winfield would pick up an 18th place finish at Daytona International Speedway, and would not make another start again until Talladega Superspeedway. That day, Max would break through and get his first career win, leading 12 laps in the process. Max's last start of the 2018 season would come at Auto Club Speedway, where he would finish 2nd to Bronte Anderson. The season Winfield had got him noticed almost immediately, and Outlaw Racers Group would sign both him and Rosemary Black to run for them in 2019, Winfield filling in for champion Corbin Rhodes, who was bound for the LIS in 2019.

Winfield's 2019 season would hit a bump on the starting line, as he would wreck out early at the New York Autoring along with his teammate Rosemary Black. Max Winfield's past road course experience would come into play for him at Watkins Glen International, as he would come home 5th in a fantastic showing. Max would hit a bit of a slump with a mechanical failure at New Hampshire International Speedway, and falling a lap down the next week at Charlotte Motor Speedway, after starting from the pole. Winfield would come home 2nd in his duel at the Orange Show Speedway, but would fall victim to a clutch failure at Auto Club. The two weeks of the Oklahoma City Motorsports Complex would bring him mixed results, as he would secure a top 10 on the infield road course, but would crash out once again at the Superspeedway. A mid-pack finish at Texas World had Max Winfield wondering what it would take to get to taste victory again.

The next week, Winfield would come home 14th at Saitama Ken Race Track, before his fortune started to change. Winfield would score a 5th place in his duel at Jukasa Motor Speedway, followed by a 6th place finish at the Calder Park Thunderdome, coming even closer to victory with a pair of 3rd place finishes at Martinsville and Walt Disney World. Winfield's season seemed to be rebounding from the shaky start, but crashing out at Daytona did his season no favors. A mediocre run at Kansas Speedway followed his disastrous Daytona race, and a mid-pack finish in his duel at Monadnock Speedway would finish the regular season for Max. Winfield would just barely make the playoffs, and would get a shot to go for his first Kobalt Tools Truck Series championship.

The first round started out for Winfield with a 10th place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and would be followed up by a rough race at New Jersey Motor Speedway. He would barely survive the unbridled mess that was the race at Grand Detour, which would end his championship bid. Winfield would rebound from this with a respectable pair of 11th and 13th place finishes at Lucas Oil Raceway Park and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, respectively. Winfield would get a 3rd place finish at Chicagoland, which had people speculating that Winfield's mojo had finally come back. Winfield would follow that up with another top 5 at Rockingham Speedway, and a top 10 at Talladega, where another unlikely winner in Vigne Tsukinose would occur. Winfield would get another Top 10 at Knoxville Speedway before crashing out in the season finale at Las Vegas. Winfield would come home 9th in points at the end of the year, and Outlaw Racers Group would elect to bring him back for 2020. (Will be finished)

2021- : LIS Career

Towards the end of 2020, Winfield announced that he would not be returning to Outlaw Racers Group for 2021, as he had been signed to race for MDM Motorsports, Inc., driving the #95 car, bringing HyperX sponsorship with him. (To be continued)

Max Winfield has been notoriously outspoken, seemingly having very little filter on what he says. Max was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder as a child, and doesn't seem very comfortable in crowded areas.

Winfield currently resides in Richmond, Virginia, where he has done a few track days at Virginia International Raceway. Winfield is a fan of hockey, rooting for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and having a notorious hatred of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Max Winfield revealed in a podcast in 2020 that he is "deathly f***ing afraid of heights", recounting an experience where he went skydiving, and thought he was going to die when his chute delayed in opening.

Winfield is a bit of a gamer, playing shooters, racing games, and fighting games from time to time with Rosemary Black, who got him into the "Fire Pro Wrestling World" video game.
