The 2023 Love's Travel Stop 150 was the fourteenth race of the 2023 STARS Lowe's International Series season.

Lap 96 Accident

On lap 96 of the race, Honoka Kousaka and Tohka Shishigaya got together exiting turn 2, sending Kousaka spinning into the pit area and Shishigaya back into the track. Shishigaya was tipped onto her passenger side by Maddie Anderson, and was pushed into the pit opening windshield and roof first. Shishigaya's car was then hit on the underside of the car, drivers side first by Caitlin Conway, before another impact from Ben Atkins sent Shishigaya airbourne, and also sent Conway upside-down. While Shishigaya was in the air, she was then hit yet again by Joe Branch, sending Shishigaya for a series of rolls. Shishigaya's car hit Branch's on the roof, but on the passenger side. Shishigaya's car finally came to rest in turn 3 on its wheels, while Conway's car after rolling twice also landed on its wheels. Atkins and Branch were also out of the race as a result.

Despite the heavy impact, Atkins climbed out of his car uninjured yet clearly shaken up. Joe Branch also climbed out of his car uninjured despite his roof and windshield both taking impacts in the accident. Conway climbed out of her car with assistance from series officials, but was checked and released from the infield care centre. Shishigaya, however, was unable to climb out of the car under her own power despite being conscious through the accident. The race was red-flagged as officials worked to cut Shishigaya out of the car. She was taken straight to a local hospital, where her injuries consisted of a broken right leg, broken right arm, a broken sternum, several broken ribs and a broken collarbone. Shishigaya had successful surgery for her injuries hours after the accident, but the accident ultimately ended her season.
